Why the Bambu Lab P1S Is Such a Great 3D Printer
I’ve had a 3D printer for a while. Before the Bambu Lab P1S, I had an Ender, and while it was a fun machine to mess around with, it always felt like the printer itself was part of the hobby.
Level the bed. Adjust something. Print a test. Something goes wrong. Adjust it again. Finally get a good print.
Then I got a Bambu Lab P1S, and the experience is completely different.
I Just Want to Print Something
This is probably my favorite thing about the P1S.
Most of the time, I can find or design something, slice it, send it to the printer, and… it prints.
That sounds like an incredibly low bar, but anyone who has spent enough time messing with older hobby 3D printers probably understands exactly what I mean.
My Ender taught me a lot about 3D printing because I was constantly messing with it. The P1S lets me actually use a 3D printer.
It’s Fast. Like, Really Fast.
The other immediately noticeable difference is speed.
Coming from an older Ender, watching the P1S fly around the build plate almost seems ridiculous. Prints that used to feel like an all-day commitment suddenly aren’t nearly as bad.
And despite that speed, the print quality is fantastic.
The Enclosure Is a Huge Plus
The P1S also comes enclosed, which makes the entire thing feel much more like a finished appliance instead of a machine sitting on a desk.
It also opens up more possibilities when you start experimenting with different filament types.
And Then There’s the AMS
The AMS is probably one of my favorite additions to the whole setup.
Being able to keep multiple rolls of filament loaded and have the printer automatically switch between them is incredibly convenient. Obviously, multicolor printing is the cool part, but honestly, just not having to manually swap filament all the time is a huge win.
It makes the P1S feel even less like something I have to constantly mess with and more like a machine that’s just ready whenever I want to print something.
The Ender Was Fun — But I Don’t Miss It
I don’t actually dislike the Ender.
For the price, those printers helped make 3D printing accessible to a ridiculous number of people, and tinkering with mine taught me quite a bit.
But there’s a difference between wanting to tinker with a 3D printer and wanting to 3D print things.
These days, I’m firmly in the second group.
The Bambu Lab P1S feels like the printer I always wanted my Ender to be: fast, reliable, easy to use, and something I don’t have to fight every time I want to make something.
Sometimes I don’t want another project.
I just want to hit print.
