Cool Charizard Pokémon Cards That Won’t Destroy Your Wallet

Charizard. Probably one of the most recognizable Pokémon ever, and definitely one of the Pokémon most associated with ridiculously expensive cards. Mention collecting Charizard and it’s easy to immediately think about Base Set Charizard and cards worth hundreds or thousands of dollars. But here’s the thing: You don’t need to spend stupid amounts of money…
Opening Packs vs Buying Singles: Which Is Actually Better?

If you collect Pokémon cards long enough, you eventually run into the same question: Should I buy packs, or should I just buy the card I want? Financially, the answer is pretty obvious. Buy the single. But if that was all that mattered, opening Pokémon cards wouldn’t be nearly as fun. Buying Singles Just Makes…
Yes, Even Cheap Pokémon Cards Need Sleeves

One thing I’ve noticed with Pokémon collecting is how differently people treat cards depending on their value. Pull a $100 card? Immediately sleeve it, put it in a top loader, and protect it like your life depends on it. Pull a really cool $2 Illustration Rare? Eh, throw it in a box. But honestly, your…

Modern Pokémon Cards vs Vintage: Which Do I Actually Enjoy More?

I’ve been a Pokémon fan since I was a kid, so vintage Pokémon cards are always going to have a special place for me. There’s just something about seeing an original Base Set Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, or even a random card like Caterpie that immediately brings back memories. The old yellow borders, the simple holo…
30 Pikachus in One Set Is Absolutely Ridiculous—and I Kind of Love It

Thirty Pikachus. In one Pokémon set. When I first heard about the 30 different Pikachu cards in Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous. I mean, I get it. It’s Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. Pikachu is the face of the franchise. Thirty Pikachus for thirty years makes sense. But still. Thirty?! Then I…
The Secret Mew Cards in Pokémon 30th Celebration Are Insane

I recently wrote about Pokémon 30th Celebration – Amazing, but there’s one thing I didn’t really get into: the absolutely wild secret RGB Mew cards hiding in this set. As I’ve mentioned before, I love Mew. It’s easily one of my favorite Pokémon. So when I found out these cards existed, my immediate reaction was…
Is Getting Your TCG Cards Graded Actually Worth It?

There are a ton of card grading companies out there. Some are huge names that almost every collector knows, while others are much smaller. But the bigger question is: is grading actually worth it? First, you’ve got the major grading companies like PSA, Beckett (BGS), CGC, and TAG. Then there are plenty of smaller grading…
