The Secret Mew Cards in Pokémon 30th Celebration Are Insane
I recently wrote about Pokémon 30th Celebration – Amazing, but there’s one thing I didn’t really get into: the absolutely wild secret RGB Mew cards hiding in this set.
As I’ve mentioned before, I love Mew. It’s easily one of my favorite Pokémon. So when I found out these cards existed, my immediate reaction was basically: damn, I need one.
And just look at them. These are some seriously cool cards.
Just How Rare Are the RGB Mews?
This is where things get interesting.
According to rumors floating around the collecting community, the RGB Mew cards could have a pull rate somewhere around 1 in 20,000 packs.
There have also been claims of roughly 180 million packs being printed. If those numbers are even remotely accurate, we’re talking about an incredibly small number of each RGB Mew making it into circulation.
Of course, those numbers are based on rumors and estimates right now, so I wouldn’t treat them as confirmed. But if the cards really are anywhere near that scarce, that’s pretty crazy.
What makes the whole thing even cooler is that they’re truly secret cards. They aren’t even listed in the ETB booklet.
I honestly can’t remember another Pokémon release handling secret cards quite like this. There’s something really fun about opening packs knowing there’s potentially something hiding in there that the set itself doesn’t even acknowledge.
And Then My Wife Pulled One…
Yep.
Of course she did.
If you’ve read Wifey Collects, you already know that Pokémon collecting has become something my wife and I enjoy together.
There’s just one problem.
She’s ridiculously lucky.
We like doing pack battles, and she gets competitive about them. Normally that would be fine if I occasionally had a chance of actually winning.
When Prismatic Evolutions came out?
Her third pack had the Moonbreon.
Now we’re opening 30th Celebration and she goes and pulls one of the secret RGB Mews.
So yeah.
I can’t get a damn win.
I’m happy we pulled one. I’m especially happy that we have one in our collection.
But would it have killed Pokémon to put it in my pack?
What Happens With These Cards From Here?
This is what I’m really curious about.
Are these RGB Mews actually as rare as the early rumors suggest? Will Pokémon quietly print more of them as additional product hits shelves? Or are we looking at cards that could remain genuinely difficult to pull?
And, of course, there’s always the possibility that the insane attention around them right now is mostly hype.
Either way, I think the idea itself is awesome. Pokémon secretly slipping incredibly rare cards into a set without even putting them in the ETB booklet makes opening packs a lot more exciting.
Now I’m curious what everyone else thinks.
Would you hold onto an RGB Mew if you pulled one, or would you sell it while the hype is high?
And more importantly…
How many packs do I have to open before I finally beat my wife in a pack battle?
